Psalms 18:1-2 says ….. I will love thee, O Lord, my strength. The Lord is my rock, and my fortress, and my deliverer; my God, my strength, in whom I will trust; my buckler, and the horn of my salvation, and my high tower.
Pastor Johnny R. Spence was born and raised in Austin, Texas. He became a member of the Mt. Olive Baptist Church since 1975. Pastor Spence accepted Christ as his personal Savior in 1980. He grew up in Mt. Olive and became Junior Usher President at age 13, Usher Coordinator at age 20 and Senior Usher President at 25. He remained in this position until he accepted his calling in December 2004. Under the leadership of Pastor Richard E. Carter, he preached his 1st Sermon in February 2005. Pastor Spence attended Wm. B. Travis High School. Upon Graduation, he furthered his education and attended Austin Community College and the University of Texas at Austin where he studied Electrical Engineering. Pastor Spence is a Graduate of the Mt. Olive Bible Institute with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Biblical Studies.
Pastor Spence and his High School Sweetheart of 31 yrs, Carol Spence, have been married for 26 of those years.
He has 3 daughters and 1 son: Jessica 27 (UTSA Graduate of Bachelors Degree of Arts in Kinesiology) Jasmine 25 (Howard University Graduate of Bachelors Degree of Arts in Administration of Justice) .) Janay 16 and Jeremy 24 (Senior at Texas Tech University studying Psychology.)
Pastor Spence currently teaches Expository Preaching at the Mt. Olive Bible Institute. Over the years, Pastor Spence has held many other positions and offices throughout the church. He was a Mt. Olive Trustee, Youth Church – Teen Minister, & Mt. Olive Sunday School Teacher.
